October through May, the club holds dances once a month at the Morningside VFW, 1820 Morningside Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 152 .
Dance evenings include a full lesson prior to the dance. Typically, a set or ceili is taught. Even newcomers can participate in the dances with confidence.
There are potluck refreshments, an evening of called dances and live music. There are sometimes themes for the party that include costumes, gifts and prizes. Alcohol is available at the VFW.
Though these are dances for adults, families often attend and older children who are able to follow the steps are invited to dance.
In September, we hold our club picnic. Current club members attend for free. A nice afternoon picnic spread at the Rose Barn in North Park is followed with a ceili on the 2nd floor there. Rustic and good fun.
The Kick-Off Ceili is our big dance of the year. Taking place one week before Pittsburgh's St. Patrick's Day parade, the Kick-Off Ceili opens the St. Patrick's day season for our community.
The Kick-Off Ceili takes place at the Teamster's Hall in Lawrenceville, PA.
The evening includes a buffet, supplemented by dishes brought by guests. There is a 50-50 and chance auctions with a variety of gift baskets.
The music of the musicians fills the hall for dancers and, as always, we have a dance caller so everyone can do the dances.
More information will be coming soon about the 2016 Kick-Off Ceili.
